Because of what Jesus has...

Because of what Jesus has done for us, we aren't the same people. We have the
perspective of those who have been rescued. Daniel Defoe, who studied to be a
Presbyterian pastor, wrote his novel, Robinson Crusoe, as a portrayal of
one's life with God. Crusoe, the only survivor of a shipwreck upon a deserted island
expresses his gratitude for rescue: "I was now landed, and safe on shore, and began to
look up and thank God that my life was saved in a case wherein there was some minutes
before scarce any room to hope. I believe it is impossible to express to the life what the
ecstasies and transports of the soul are when it is so saved, as I may say, out of the very
grave...."
Believing oneself saved allows one, as Paul advises and as Robinson Crusoe learns, to be content "with food and clothing." Gratitude motivates the Christian lifestyle.
