The assignment for the fifth...

The assignment for the fifth graders was to write an essay about making the world a better place in which to live. Having just completed another project about citizenship and communication with elected leaders, she began to develop the main idea for her essay. Two days later, she turned in her report which began with these words:
A pen and a piece of paper are the tools we need to make this world a better place. All we need to do with those tools is write a letter to the President, the Governor, our representatives in Congress, or the mayor of our town. In these letters, we need to tell these important people how much we respect them. We should let them know that we understand how busy they are. I believe they would like to know that we are praying for them to help them get their important work done. These leaders will probably enjoy receiving letters that do not have requests or complaints in them. With all this good mail coming to them, maybe they will feel better and do a better job. When that happens, this world will be a better place. So, let's
start writing.
