According to the Commerce Department, more than 8 million households now have annual incomes over $100,000, and about half of those households have $1 million or more in assets. But that affluence is not always translating into generosity. Instead, many people are focusing their wealth upon themselves. For instance, there are waiting lists to purchase $65 million Gulfstream aircraft and $15,000 Hermes handbags. And there are more $10,000 to $50,000 watches being worn today than ever before.
