Any parent knows the frustration of correcting wayward children.
It is easy for the child, pouting, to insist that you are being too hard on him/her and play on your sympathy.
It is equally easy for the child to play off of your own perceived "shortcomings," pointing out how you are the cause of his/her waywardness.
Or the child may insist that he/she is not wayward, but that you are "stuffy," an old "fuddy-duddy" who hasn't kept up with things, and thus simply taunt your efforts.
