Angus Heath and I were...

Angus Heath and I were in the sixth grade together and lived only a couple of houses apart. On most mornings he would arrive early at my house or I'd arrive at his. We'd talk with each other's family and then walk to school together. In each other's home, both of us were treated quite like family members. So it wasn't any surprise when I became a close witness to a sharp exchange between Angus and his mother. Mrs. Heath had spoken to Angus about taking better care of his jacket. "It's just been cleaned," she said, "and you better remember that!" But Angus had given no reply.
