They were called ziggurats, and the famous "Hanging Garden of Babylon" was one such tower. There are several websites that have aerial photographs, which have been taken from satellites. If you have a computer and an Internet account and a phone line, you can see how quite a bit of the world looks from earth's orbit. You enter the zip code of the place you want to see, and it locates the photograph.
