Although many churches have suffered...

Although many churches have suffered over the years from scandals, one denomination always seems to keep its reputation rather pure. And that denomination is the Mennonite church, or what most people would call the Amish. But it turns out that even the clean-living Amish can fall victim to temptation. For instance, in the 1920s a Mennonite community was formed in Mexico, just south of the border. For years, the border guards just waved the Amish people through as they entered the United States, figuring that there certainly was no point in searching them for illegal materials. But that all changed in 1989 when a drug-sniffing dog discovered more than 200 pounds of marijuana hidden inside some Amish furniture that was being transported into the country. And more recently, another Amish man was arrested when customs agents found 761 pounds of illegal weed in his tractor trailer. This passage reminds us that we all have sinned, and we all stand in need of God's forgiveness. -- Bowen
