Aldous Huxley (1894-1963) was famous for his satirical novels and his biting criticism of the modern world. His Brave New World, 1932, depicted a repulsive Utopia.
Just before he died he wrote:
"The older one gets, the more unutterably mysterious, unlikely and totally implausible one's own life and the universe at large steadily become."
As quoted by:
Ronald W. clark
The Huxleys
(McGraw-Hill, 1968)
I wonder if he had an inkling of how the gospel goes beyond mystery to hope?
-- Prescott
