In the classic novel, Jane Eyre, a young man receives a call to be a missionary in a foreign land, but he cannot go unless he takes a wife. He approaches the governess, Jane Eyre, tells her of his intention to take the gospel to the heathen, and asks for her hand in marriage. Jane asks him to consider first whether or not they love each other. He answers that love has little to do with it. It is the spreading of the gospel of Christ that is most important.
Jane Eyre turns to leave and her parting words ring in his ears and soul. "If there is no love for each other, for those who walk upon the earth together, then there can be no love of Christ."
