In the 1920s, the London County Council opened up the old slum district in East London. Before the Council did its work, the district was congested. The streets were not much better than alleys. These streets were covered with garbage. Tenements lined these narrow streets. Disease and crime lived in those streets. The Council bought this area of the city for an enormous price. The old houses were torn down. A broad, straight highway was cut through the district. When it was completed, it was called "The King's Way." Christ made just such a way for us to the Father.
