Who am I?
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: When Peter identified Jesus as "the
Messiah, the Son of the Living God," he did so under the
inspiration of the Father in Heaven. Only those who have been
given faith by the Holy Spirit are able to know the truth about
who Jesus really is. We are blessed with this knowledge because
we too, through the word of God, have come to know Jesus. While
only the Holy Spirit can instill faith in the heart, we can
strengthen that faith through reading God's word and talking
about its meaning with our children.
*Show the children a pile of books, magazines, comic books,
and one Bible. Select one child to look through the pile looking
for Jesus. If the child selects the Bible as the place to find
him, congratulate the child and discuss why the Bible is the
place to find the real Jesus. If the first child doesn't select
the Bible, have another child try until the Bible is selected.
*Ask the children to name the people who have been most
important in changing the world we live in and list them on a
board or easel. When they have finished, talk about each person
and what each did that changed the world. If Jesus is named, save
him for last. If Jesus is not named, add him to the list and
discuss why he is the most important.
Sunday school assembly opening:
*Put up a picture of Jesus and ask the children to identify
him. Then have volunteers tell you who he really is, what he did
during his life on earth, and how they came to know that. You
want to establish that we know Jesus through God's Holy Word,
that the Holy Spirit enlightens us as we read that word or it is
read to us.
*Sing a hymn praising Jesus, such as "How Sweet The Name Of
Jesus Sounds."
