"What's a saint?"
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: All Saints' Day is a good time to let
our children know that all believers are God's saints, people who
are sanctified by their faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and
Savior. We need to emphasize that, as God's saints, we are called
to do the works that God wants us to do and be witnesses for Him
in this sinful world.
*Explain to the children that saints are those who believe
and therefore try to do what God wants them to do. With this in
mind ask them to tell you what a saint would do when faced with
the situations Jesus describes in verses 27-31. What does a saint
do with enemies? What would a saint do it somebody cursed or
abused him or her? What would a saint do if somebody struck him
or took away his coat? What would a saint do for the poor? In
general, what would a saint do to others?
When it is well established what a saint would do in those
situations, ask them to apply it to themselves. How have they
acted in those situations? How does God want them to act?
Sunday school assembly opening:
*Sing a hymn, such as "For All The Saints," which speaks to
the theme for the day.
*Ask the children to seat themselves in two groups, saints
on one side and sinners on the other. No matter how they sit, it
will give you the opportunity to tell them that we are all both
saints and sinners at the same time.
