Children's Activity
SHARING THIS WEEK'S GOSPEL THEME AT SUNDAY SCHOOL AND AT HOME
Celebrate Pentecost Sunday by having a birthday party for the church. Bring in a cake, cupcakes, or fancy cookies and play some party games with prizes for the winners. Help the children make party hats.
Materials:
Construction paper
Elastic or ribbon
Stapler
Glue
Craft scraps -- feathers, sequins, glitter, miscellaneous decorations
Scissors
Markers
Directions:
1. Give each child a sheet of construction paper which will be used to make a hat.
2. Have them decorate their hats as they wish. If decorating with markers, you might want to decorate before the hats are formed. If gluing on materials, decorating should wait until the hats are shaped and trimmed to keep the decorations from falling off during the rolling process.
3. Roll the papers into cone shapes with a point at the ends.
4. Cut the open end so that the hat sits flat on the child's head.
5. Glue or staple ribbon or elastic to the hat, so that it stays on the child's head.
Game ideas:
Play "Pin The Doors On The Church." Have a large cutout of a church with a blank space for the door. Make "doors" out of brown paper, and have the children attach them as in the "Pin The Tail On The Donkey" game.
Fill small jars with candy or buttons that have been counted. Have the children guess how many are in each jar.
Play Bible Bingo or other Bible trivia games.
