Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers: Since this is the last Sunday of the year, a good connecting activity to the lesson is to try to list all the things they have learned this past year. It could be a review of the Bible stories they have had in church school or it could be the things they have learned in school. Or it might be a list of songs they have learned. Depending on their ages, it might be as simple as having learned to tie their shoes, learned the alphabet, or learned to count to 100. As they each name things, the discussion will probably spark other things for each of them. You might want to obtain a growth and development resource book to suggest age-appropriate behaviors they might have learned. If you don't think the discussion will fill the available time, you may want to give each a piece of paper to list or draw what they have learned or you may want to compile a large group list. In your discussion, mention that the things they have all learned in the past year are probably things that Jesus learned when he was their age. Suggest other things Jesus might have learned due to the differences in culture and historical times.
Parents: The end of the year is an appropriate time to review what your family has done in the past year. Use some family together time to do this, either verbally or with pictures you may have taken the past year.
