A strong faith
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: There is probably no other word in the
Bible that is as misunderstood as the word "faith." Jesus tells
us throughout the gospels that we can accomplish any good thing
with faith. In this Gospel reading, we see a woman's daughter
healed due to faith. Our children need to appreciate the value of
faith in their own lives and understand that faith, once it is
given to us by God, needs to be nurtured and made strong by Bible
study, church attendance, and use in our daily lives.
*Ask one child to stand up and close his eyes. Tell the
child that when you touch the back of his head, he is to fall
backwards and you will catch him. Do this two or more times until
the child is quite comfortable falling, knowing that you will
catch him. Discuss with all the children how faith is like this
in that the more we use it, the stronger it becomes.
*Bring a heavy weight of some kind that you are sure some of
the children can't lift. Ask the smallest, weakest child to try
to lift it. When she fails, ask the biggest, strongest child to
lift it. After she has lifted it, ask the children to explain why
the stronger child could do it while the weaker one could not.
Then discuss how this relates to faith. The stronger child has
developed stronger muscles through use, just as we will develop
stronger faith as we use it.
Sunday school assembly opening:
*Sing a hymn about faith, such as "I Know My Faith Is
Founded" or "My Faith Looks Up To Thee."
