Serving
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: Jesus himself showed his followers a
powerful object lesson when he washed the disciples' feet. He
taught them through example to love and serve. The very word for
this day "Maundy" comes from the Latin mandatum, meaning
"command" (as in "I give you a new commandment that you love one
another." [v. 34])
* Relate any self-denial you or the children have imposed upon yourselves this Lenten season and how it relates to this "new commandment" to serve and love.
* Have a foot washing at home.
* If you have communion at worship, tell again the story of Jesus' first communion as it related to the Passover celebration.
* Have a Passover meal. This could be done prior to the worship service and everyone could be invited. (Some congregations give first communion on Maundy Thursday. How meaningful to precede the service of the congregation with a family-oriented Passover service!)
