Seeing Jesus
Children's sermon
Object:
a blindfold and a picture of Jesus
Good morning! How's your eyesight? Can you all see fairly
well? (Let them answer.) God is very good to us. He gave us eyes
to see. As we look around the world that He created, we can see
all kinds of beauty everywhere. We see the pretty flowers, the
birds in the sky, the mountains, the rivers, and all that God has
created. But, what if there was no light? What if the sun never
came up and we had to live in darkness all the time? How would
you like that? (Let them answer.)
Let's see how that would be. Let's blindfold one of you so
that you can't see. Will somebody volunteer? (Let one child
volunteer and blindfold hin/her.) Okay, now _____________, can
you see anything? (Let him/her answer.) I'm going to put a
picture in front of you and I want you to tell me what's in the
picture. (Put the picture in front of the child and let him/her
admit that he/she can't see it.) Well, let's take the blindfold
off. (Remove the blindfold.) Now tell me who is in this picture.
(Let him/her answer.)
Just as _______________ wasn't able to see Jesus when he/she
had the blindfold on, nobody in this world can see Jesus until
God gives them faith. It's like everybody is walking in darkness
and can't see the truth. If we want people to see Jesus, we have
to get their blindfolds off. How do we do that? (Let them
answer.) We have to tell them about Jesus. When they hear the
word of God and understand it, it's just like taking a blindfold
off. They can then see the truth. They can see Jesus. Let's pray
for all the people in the world who are in darkness because they
don't know Jesus.
Dear Father in Heaven: We thank You for removing our blindfolds
so that we can walk in the light of Jesus. Help us to remove the
blindfolds from others so that they too can see Jesus. Amen.
