Saints Believe in Jesus
Children's sermon
Object:
driver's license
The Point: A saint believes in Jesus and trusts him for eternal life
The Lesson: Welcome girls and boys. Thank you for joining me. Today is a special day in the life of the church. It is All Saints Day.
Did you know that I am a part of a special group of people? I can prove it. See I have a driver's license. (show license) That means that I am a part of a group of people who have studied the rules and regulations required to drive a car on a road. It means that I have had practical experience and training in actually driving a car. Then I had to take a test to prove I knew the laws for driving a car as well as pass a driving test. The license is proof that I am authorized to drive a car. Does that mean I am a perfect driver? (let children answer) No, I make mistakes. I forget to use my turn signal. I sometimes drive faster than I should. I get in a hurry and don't put on my seatbelt. Even though I am not a perfect driver I am still a part of the group of people who are entitled to drive.
Do you know what a "saint" is? (let children answer) Sometimes people think that it means a person is a perfect child of God. That is not right. A "saint" is a person who believes in Jesus and because of this belief he or she is a part of the family of God. A saint is a child of God. I don't have a "saint's license" to prove I am a child of God. But what I believe and my actions reveal that I truly belong to Jesus.
Are you a "saint"? (let children answer) If you believe and trust in Jesus, you are. Are you perfect? No, none of us is perfect. Jesus' grace and his forgiving love for us covers our sins and claims as his beloved children. Isn't it wonderful to realize that we are set apart, saints, for Jesus?
You are too young to have driver’s license. But you are not too young to believe and trust in Jesus. There are not any perfect drivers or perfect "saints." When you are old enough, be the best driver possible. Now as saints be the best followers of Jesus that you can. Jesus' love for you will do the rest.
Believe and trust in Jesus and he will give you eternal life.
Prayer: Boys and girls, let us unite our hearts and hands in prayer. Jesus, on this All Saints Day we are reminded that you gave your perfect life for us. Help us to believe and trust in you that we may be counted as one of your saints. Jesus, in your name we believe and pray. Amen.
