Rewarding experience
Children's Activity
Object:
Parents and Teachers: This morning's lesson is about rewards.
Focus your attention on how young children can feel that they
make a contribution to their church. In this way, they may feel
that their contribution is rewarding to all members.
For youngsters who like to draw, suggest that they construct a "Reward Poster." At the top write the word "Reward!" Below that banner write "Wanted: Followers Of Christ." Suggest they draw a picture of how they would help someone. Offer some ideas to them. These ideas could include: visiting the sick, sharing toys with needy children, or sending cards of cheer to homebound persons. Inform them that when they help someone they help Jesus.
For older youth talk to them about actual ways that they could help other disciples (Christians). Make a list of helpful projects in the church that they might consider doing. After making the list, and with your guidance and some pre-planning, see that one or more of these ideas is carried out. Here's a starter list. You may expand on this. With adult supervision youth might consider sharpening the pencils in the pews, help clean up the sanctuary after the worship service, help pass out bulletins at the beginning of the service, act as greeters, or help pass the offering plates during the service.
More traditional suggestions are to construct and send cards to members in the hospital, nursing homes or homebound, or plan a visit to some of those persons. Whatever project is carried out, see that the class is recognized in the bulletin, church newsletter or in some other form.
