The promise is fulfilled

It's almost here! Tomorrow is Christmas Eve. In two days Christmas will finally be here. It's been so hard to wait, but we made it. We've all done different things to get ready. Listen to some of the different things people have done to get ready: They've decorated houses, put up lights, bought presents, had parties, stopped school, taken off from work, gotten Christmas trees, prayed, gone to church and waited. Maybe you haven't done all those things, but we've all done one of them. We've all waited. We've waited and waited and waited.
Imagine how it must have been that very first Christmas. Mary and Joseph were waiting for their baby to be born. The world was waiting for the Savior to come. People had been waiting a very long time. The coming of Jesus had been promised many years before -- even before Jesus' great-great-grandparents had been born. Centuries earlier, God had told the prophets to be on the lookout for the Savior. He told them to get ready for him and to wait patiently. So they did. They didn't know how long they'd have to wait, but they waited and got ready. We've only been waiting four weeks, but the world had been waiting for hundreds of years! Can you imagine?
Then, one night in Bethlehem, the promise was fulfilled. God had promised that the Savior would come, and he finally arrived. He didn't look like people imagined, but he came just the same. He came to bring a light into the dark places, to bring love into lonely places and to bring joy into sad places. These are the real gifts of Christmas. Jesus is the ultimate gift of God's love for us, and that gift is for all of us. The best gift of all is given just for you. Merry Christmas (almost)!
Prayer: God, what a wonderful gift you've given us. Thank you for sending Jesus to love us and change the world. Amen.
