Planted by water
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers: Jeremiah compares things that grow to people who
trust God. Those who do not trust God are like shrubs in the
desert. Those who do trust God are trees planted by water, which
send their roots out by the stream.
Explain these images to your class. You will help your students to better understand growing things with and without water with an experiment. You will need two potatoes and two clear glass containers with wide enough openings to place the potatoes part-way inside. One container will have water. The other will have no water. Place one potato in the jar with water. Make certain that some of the water touches the potato. Place the other potato in the jar with no water. Tell the students that they must wait until next week to see if one begins to grow roots. Ask students their opinions on which will grow roots. Check the progress next week.
Parents: Your child watched an experiment with two potatoes and water. Try the experiment at home. See what happens to the potato after it is in water for one week. This is like Jeremiah's explanation of someone who trusts in God.
