The people puzzle
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: Surely one of the problems facing our
nation is how different people representing different groups can
all fit under one banner. It doesn't have to be a problem. If
there is respect and love for all people -- regardless of
differences -- then unity can exist in diversity.
You can help by teaching your children respect for others. Show them a coin and tell them you are going to teach them some Latin today. They will probably enjoy knowing something in Latin. Show them the phrase on our coins that says, "E Pluribus Unum." Explain to the children that this phrase on our coins is exactly the point being made in the children's sermon today: The phrase literally means "from many comes one." (E="from"; Pluribus="many"; Unum="one.")
Even the coins demonstrate this. You could gather quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies and make "one" dollar. All the coins are different and yet they make "one" dollar.
