I do not cease to give thanks for you as I remember you in my prayers. (v. 16)
Good morning, boys and girls! How are you this morning? (allow answers) Today we're going to talk about prayer. How many of you say prayers at home? (allow answers) When do you say prayers? (allow answers) We usually say prayers before we do something important: We say prayers before we eat meals, before we go to bed, and sometimes before a sports game or other special event. Why do you think we pray at these times? (allow answers) We pray before important things to ask God's blessing and to thank him for the good things he gives us. When we pray before eating, we thank God for the food that gives us energy for our day. When we pray before we sleep, we thank God for protecting us as we sleep and rest our bodies.
What are some things you say when you pray? (allow answers) We talk about lots of things when we talk to God! When we talk to God, we thank him for the good things that have happened to us. We ask him to help us through hard times. We ask him to be with our friends, families, neighbors, and other people of the world during their lives.
During the church service, we do all of these things in our prayers. We thank God for his goodness. We ask for his help and forgiveness. We have a list of names that we read to ask God to be with them in their hard times.
Pay attention during the church service today. Listen to all of the prayers we say. What are we asking God for or telling God about during each of our prayers? Amen.
