Lord, I believe!
Children's sermon
Object:
a mask with the eye holes covered
Good morning, boys and girls. I brought a mask with me this
morning. Do any of you see anything different about it? (Let them
answer.) That's right. I've covered the holes so that I can't see
if I put it on. If I put this mask on I'd be blind wouldn't I?
(Let them answer.) This morning's lesson is about a blind man.
Jesus gave the blind man his sight. (Choose a willing child to
wear the mask.) I want to show you what Jesus did. I wonder if
(name the child) might put the mask on for a moment. (Have the
child put on the mask.) Jesus saw the blind man and (remove the
covers over the eyes.) healed the man. It was the first time ever
that the man could see! (Ask the child if she can see.) When the
blind man could see he told Jesus, "Lord, I believe." He believed
that Jesus was the son of God.
There were some people who were very jealous of Jesus for doing this. These men were called Pharisees. The Pharisees could see like you and I. They were blind in another way. They were spiritually blind. How can someone be spiritually blind? (Let them answer.) They could not see that Jesus was God's son. They did not trust Jesus. There were jealous of Jesus. Our lesson is about a blind man being healed, but it tells us something more important. It tells us that even though we can see, we need to make certain that we don't become spiritually blind like the Pharisees. We need to say, "Lord, I believe," when we are asked if Jesus is God's son. We must trust Jesus. If we do this, we won't be spiritually blind.
