Jesus has authority
Children's sermon
Object:
a Bible and a school textbook
Good morning! Once Jesus was teaching people in Israel, and
the people were amazed that he taught them in a different way
than they were used to. The people who usually taught them were a
little wishy-washy about a lot of what they taught. They never
seemed to be absolutely sure of what they were teaching. When
Jesus taught them, however, he told them the absolute truth, and
they knew he meant every word he said. Which kind of teacher
would you want to teach you? (Let them answer.)
We have the same kind of thing happening today. We are
taught things in school that may not be correct. I think most of
what you learn in school is correct, and most of your teachers
really believe all that they teach. But they are all human
beings, and human beings make mistakes. Now here is a school
textbook. This one teaches us about ___________________. What if
there was something in this book that was different than what is
written in this textbook? Which book would you believe? (Show the
Bible and let them answer.) Yes, we would believe the Bible
because the Bible is God's word and it has the same authority
that Jesus had when he taught people. We know that what is
written in the Bible is absolutely true so that is what we will
always believe.
Let's thank God for giving us His holy word in the Bible.
Dear Father in Heaven: We thank You so much for giving us the
Bible, which we know is true because it is Your word. We will
always believe what You tell us, because You are our Father and
we know that You love us and would never lie to us. Amen.
