How wise is God?
Children's sermon

your hands
Good morning, boys and girls. Do you ever talk with your
friends about things that puzzle you? (Let them answer.)
Sometimes when you get together as a group you can talk about
something that you don't understand and soon you will all
understand it. This morning I want to tell you a story about four
friends who were trying to understand just how wise God is. Maybe
that's a question that you've wondered.
The four friends were two boys and two girls. They knew that God was very wise, but they didn't know how wise. The first boy said, "I think God is as wise as my hands are stretched apart." (Hold your hands about two feet apart.) Then one of the girls said, "I think God is as wise as my hands are stretched apart." (Stretch your hands as far apart as you can.) Then the other boy spoke. "I think God is as wise as a truck is large." Finally the other girl spoke. "I think God is as wise as this church is tall. (Point to the ceiling of the church.) This talk went on and on. (You can add objects to this conversation.) Finally, one of the girls said, "I think God is as wise as the sky is high." One of the boys said, "I think God is as wise as the ocean is deep." Have you ever thought how high the sky is, or how deep the ocean is? (Let them answer.) Well, these four children thought about that.
Do you know that the children were right? God is as wise as this church ceiling is high. God is as wise as the ocean is deep and as the sky is high. Our Bible story this morning speaks about how wise God is. It says, "O the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God!"
This week, I want you to think about God and how wise God is. When you see something very large, or if you can imagine something very large, remember God is as wise as that object is large. God is as wise as the sky is high and the ocean is deep!
