He is risen!
Children's sermon
Object:
an Easter lily
Good morning! What do they call this flower? (Show the
flower and let them answer.) Yes, this is an Easter Lily. I think
it got its name because it blooms each spring about the time
Easter comes. Now, was this flower always this beautiful? (Let
them answer.) No, of course it wasn't. It started out as a bulb
that someone planted in the ground. After a certain length of
time, the top of this flower poked up through the ground and
eventually it grew to look as it does right now.
Today is Easter, and what are we celebrating today? (Let
them answer.) Yes, we're celebrating the resurrection of Jesus
from the grave. In a way, he was kind of like this flower. He was
put into the ground after they took him down from the cross, but
on Easter morning, he rose from the ground in all his glory, just
like this flower which was planted in the ground came up out of
the ground to be this beautiful flower.
As Christians, we all know that Jesus did rise from the
dead, but there are a lot of people in the world who don't know
that. Some of them even celebrate Easter, but they aren't really
celebrating Jesus rising from the dead. All they do is have a big
dinner and eat candy, but they don't praise God for raising Jesus
from the dead. Let's pray for all those people, shall we?
Dear Father in Heaven: We thank You so much for raising Jesus
from the dead on that first Easter morning. Help us to tell
everyone about this wonderful good news so that they will also
come to know Jesus as their Savior. Amen.
