God loves us all
Children's sermon
Object:
a box of crayons
Good morning, boys and girls. I brought a box of crayons with
me this morning. How many of you like to use crayons to draw
pictures? (Let them answer.) Do any of you have favorite colors
that are in this box? (Let them answer.) I happen to like the
color (name a color and hold it up).
I want to tell you a story about this box of crayons. Since the crayons live so closely together they spend a lot of time with each other. The crayons know the other crayons very well. Some of the crayons in this box were talking about God's love one day. The red ones told the other crayons that God only loved red crayons. The orange crayons didn't believe that at all. The orange crayons told the red crayons that God only loved orange crayons. The blue crayons started to give their opinion. The blue crayons said that God only loved blue crayons. This arguing went on and on. Crayons of a certain color were convinced that God only loved that color.
Can anyone tell me the truth about this story? Do you think that God only loves a certain color? (Let them answer.) The answer is that God loves all the colors in the crayon box. If these crayons represented all of us here this morning, it wouldn't matter to God which one of us were any of these colors.
Here's what you need to know about God's love. God has no favorites when it comes to color, or whether you are a boy or a girl, tall or short, wear glasses or don't wear glasses. God has no favorites when it comes to where you live, what your name is, or any of that. God loves you when you do good things to others and when you do what is right. Can you remember that? God loves you when you do good things to others and when you do what is right. It's nice to know that our God is a loving God. God doesn't care what color we are, like the crayons thought. God loves us when we do what is right.
