Expensive perfume
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: Children are often impressed with a
twenty-dollar bill. This is a time to take them on a tour of your
church facilities. You may have a newer building or it may be
quite old -- it doesn't matter. Find out from your church
treasurer, secretary, or pastor what insurance value your church
facilities have.
Take the children on a tour of the building and grounds and then ask them how much they think this might cost if the congregation had to build the same thing or something similar today. Then tell them. Emphasize how much money the building is worth.
"Why do you think those who built this building spent so much of their money for it?" (The answer you want to get, obviously, is "because they wanted to show God how much they loved him.") "That's what happened with Mary. She had some very expensive perfume and she wanted to show Jesus that she loved him very much. That is why she did what she did."
