Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers: In our lesson today John the Baptist tells the crowds who come to be baptized that they should share what they have with others who have none. You will need a large piece of tagboard or posterboard. On it make large letters at least three inches wide and six inches tall for the words SHARE WHAT YOU HAVE WITH THOSE WHO HAVE NONE. The letters must be thick enough for pictures to be pasted in them. Bring magazines or catalogs, scissors, and glue. Have the children cut out pictures of food and/or clothes and make a collage within each letter. As you are cutting and pasting, talk about ways to share clothes and food. Make it specific to what is available in your community. The posters you make may be useful if you have some type or collection of food or clothes in your local church, school, or community. If you have a large number of children, you may want to make more than just one collage poster.
Parents: Be sure to participate in whatever collection of food and clothes that takes place in your church, school, or community. Let your child go with you to the store to pick out the food you will share. Let the child go with you to drive the clothes to the collection center. Children learn young to share and it becomes a regular part of their lives.
