Children Of God
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers: This lesson offers you a chance to do role-playing.
The session focuses on "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they
will be called children of God." Explain that each student will
have a chance to participate. Chose three students to be the
first actors. Give them an object like a toy or book or an apple
to eat (depending on age group). Have one student play with the
toy or read the book. Hate the second student enter and try to
take the object away. While the two argue over the object have
the third student enter. This is the peacemaker. Have this
student suggest that the two share the object, take turns, or
offer an additional object to play with. The scene ends in a
peaceable situation.
Once the first three students conclude their scene, chose three more students or switch roles. Create a new situation or elaborate on the same one. Once the students see one or two situations that you suggest let them create their own situations. You might be one of the role players, too. In the first scene you might be the person who wants to take the object from the student who has it. This will set the role-playing scene for the next students. Explain to your students that a peaceful solution exists for most situations where people disagree. Suggest that students think of situations at home or at school where a peaceful solution might work in an awkward situation.
Parents: Suggest that your family create situations that can be resolved peacefully. Act these out. As a variation, have the parents be the children and the children be the parents. Allow everyone in your family to create and direct a role-playing situation that is resolved peacefully. Encourage your children to offer the solutions to the situations. Try to act out situations that are real in your family.
