A brand-new year
Children's sermon
Object:
a calendar
Good morning! Well, here we are in church on a Saturday
morning. Why are we in church today? (Let them answer.) Yes,
today is New Year's Day. And this is a very special New Year's
Day because it is the first year in any of our lives that does
not start with nineteen hundred. Look at this new calendar. (Show
the calendar.) See how this year is 2000 and not nineteen
anything. You know I am ____ years old, and every year in my
whole life has started with nineteen. This is really a brand-new
thing for me and for all of us.
You know, God tells us that someday He will make all things
new. When Jesus comes back, there will be no more calendars at
all. Everything will be new and time will mean nothing. We won't
have days or weeks or months or years. Everything will be new and
perfect for all of us. There will be a new Heaven and a new
earth. Won't that be wonderful for all of us? (Let them answer.)
Let's thank God for His wonderful promises.
Dear Father in Heaven: We praise You and thank You for the
wonderful promises You have given us of a new Heaven and a new
earth where everything will be perfect. As we begin a new year,
keep us mindful of all the blessings that You have given and
continue to give us in this present world. Amen.
