The beginning and the end
Children's sermon
Object:
a children's book and a rubber band
Good morning, boys and girls. What's your favorite book? (Let
them answer.) I brought one of my favorite books this morning.
(Show the book and tell a little about it.) I also brought
something else with me this morning. (Show the rubber band.) It's
a rubber band. What does a rubber band have to do with a book?
I'll show you in a minute. Let's talk about my book first. Did
you ever notice that all books come to an end? (Show the last
page.) That's the end of the book. There are no more pages or
stories or pictures after this page. Can you think of something
that doesn't have an end to it? (Let them answer.)
That's why I brought this rubber band. It doesn't have an end
to it. It goes around and around. (Show the rubber band.) My book
and my rubber band remind me of this morning's lesson. In the
lesson Jesus tells us that he is the beginning and the end. His
love for you and me goes on and on and on. It never stops.
Here's what I want you to remember this week. The next time
you look at a book and come to an end, think of Jesus. Your book
will have an end to it but with Jesus there is no end. The next
time you see a rubber band, or a circle or a wheel, think of
Jesus, also. Those things have no ends to them. Jesus' love for
us has no ending either. Jesus' love for us goes on and on and
on.
