Advent checkoff
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers: This is the first Sunday of Advent. Give each
student a sheet of paper to create an Advent checkoff calendar.
This helps your students to watch and anticipate each Sunday as
you get closer to Christmas. Title it "Watching Advent." On each
Sunday on the left side of the chart could be a box to check off
when that Sunday has arrived. To the right of each date is a
suggested drawing the students can make. These focus on the
gospel theme of the day.
You may follow this format: (Name of student) is watching Advent
(Box) Advent 1 (Students draw sun, moon, stars)
(Box) Advent 2 (Students draw a path)
(Box) Advent 3 (Students draw someone preaching)
(Box) Advent 4 (Students draw Mary thanking God)
(Box) Christmas (Students draw a candle in darkness)
Parents: Your child is watching Advent move toward Christmas. She created a checkoff chart. Post the chart and remind her to check off each Sunday as you get closer to Christmas. The drawings on the chart represent the gospel theme of that Sunday.
