Comments on the Lessons
The pericope from Jeremiah is the festal restoration lesson associated with Christmas. The Sirach (or Ecclesiasticus) reading parallels the wisdom theme of the John passage. The Isaiah passage (L) is concerned with the growth of righteousness and the new name. Note that the lessons for Christmas 2 are the same for years A, B, C. Because of secular influences Christmas 2 is not often observed, but the lesson from John has special significance for the meaning of the Incarnation.
