From earliest times, the act...
From earliest times, the act of laying hands upon a person's head was symbolic of conveying a spiritual blessing. Sometimes it had economic or political symbolism as well, as in the coronation of a king. Even today, the ceremony of laying on hands is part of Christian rites of ordination, confirmation, and healing. Some transfer of spiritual power is believed to accompany this outward sign of comfort or blessing. It is a form of touching another person. Touching or feeling is one of our five senses and each of our senses helps bring us to God or make us aware of God.
