Salvation has not had a good press for quite a while. It seems to be too rigid, too unattractive, even though a necessity. Sort of like the Salvation Army, of which an English clergyman said at the end of the last century when asked his opinion, "Well, of course I don't approve of it, but I'm very much afraid that the Lord Almighty does."
Our problem with the words "sacrifice" and "salvation" is that they convey a rather rigid fundamentalism. We ought not let that deter from contemplating this aspect of our faith.
