Brendon, the Celtic monk of the eighth century, on the Island of Iona, had one ambition in life. To him would be given the glory of discovering the Island of "Tir-na-nog." ("The Island of Everlasting Happiness") Tradition had located it in the broad uncharted waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Came the spring and Brendon set out in his coracle, into a fine neap tide, its sails billowing in the fresh southeaster, heaving over the incoming breakers and away, perhaps forever, from his beloved Scotland.
