Theological issues aside, there is a human situation here that pastors will understand. Apollos was evidently a dynamic and polished speaker. Apollos had worked in this area of Ephesus prior to Paul's arrival. Evidently Paul noted some flaw in the preaching of Apollos. He corrects that flaw. There is no criticism of Apollos who had a popular following in the church. Paul elsewhere pays a tribute to Apollos in reference to a situation in Corinth, "I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth." I have encountered the "since I came" syndrome in pastors.
