John had been an elder...
John had been an elder in his congregation for nearly a year. Among the duties that came with this office, he had come to treasure most the task of taking communion to the members of the congregation who were residents of the local nursing home. Eleven months ago, the first time he had fulfilled this particular responsibility, he had approached the experience with apprehension. That was gone now. John had been blessed these eleven months by the immense joy with which these folks greeted him when he came; he had also developed deep compassion for their loneliness.
