There are certain events in history that can be considered turning points. They happen once and everything is different afterward because of it. When the steam engine was invented and widely used in eighteenth and nineteenth century Europe, the economy of the world began to change from an agricultural base to an industrial base. When Sputnik was launched in 1957, the Space Age began. Saint Paul lifts up the appearance of Christ as the pivotal point in history. He dealt with our sins decisively once for all. Everything is different afterward because of it. We are now children of God, a new creation in a new age. Christ is the turning point of all history, such that what precedes him is "before Christ" (B.C.) and what is after him is referred to as A.D., anno Domini, "in the year of our Lord." -- Molldrem
