Christians travel a journey that abounds in hope. Our hope fills us with so much energy and desire that at times there literally seems to be no time to sleep. But frustrations and disappointments keep our hope anchored to earth. The Greek hero Sisyphus is condemned to roll a rock up a hill eternally. Each time he succeeds, the rock rolls back to the bottom. From one perspective we can consider this our plight. We can focus on our frustrations and disappointments. We can grow discouraged that our efforts do not seem to hasten the coming of God's new age. A hopeful perspective remembers that Sisyphus went down the hill and with determination began rolling the rock again. The hopeful perspective remembers that our joy and peace grow from faithfulness, not success.
