What language shall I borrow...
Illustration
"What language shall I borrow?" That is the question asked by the hymn from another church season. Words are needed to communicate God's mighty deeds. Yet, just as one language is learned and used, another rises up to take its place. That's what happened in the early church. Jesus and the disciples spoke Aramaic. However, that language was rather localized and to be conversant in the world, one had to know Greek. But, before long, Latin superseded Greek as the common language of commerce, church and court.
