Rabbi Yochanan bar Nafcha was considered the greatest teacher of his generation. He
died around 279 AD. His teaching forms the basis of the Jerusalem Talmud. One
of Rabbi Yochanan's commentaries has lately been included in the (Reformed) Jewish
Passover ritual (the Haggadah).
