Living Water
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers: For this project you will need styrofoam cups (one
for each pupil), potting soil for the cups, grass seed and a
pitcher of water. With the weather getting warmer, this is a good
opportunity for you and your class to plant some seeds.
Talk with your students about Jesus and "living water." Explain to them that he is talking about himself in the story of living water and the Samaritan woman. Pass out the cups. Have students decorate them with stickers, crayons, felt markers and other material that you have available. Explain that students will be given potting soil and grass seeds to plant in the soil. The seeds represent the church. Have the students place soil in their cups. Next they can plant their seeds (near the top of the soil). Take your pitcher of water. Tell students that this represents the "living water" of Christ. The "living water" is helping churches and congregations to grow. Help each student put just enough water in her cup. Explain that the cups need to be sprinkled with water a few times a week. Be prepared to ask for updates on the grass in weeks to come.
Parents: Your child is learning about Jesus as the "living water." Help your child to water the grass seed during the week. The water represents Christ. The grass seed represents the church. As winter turns to spring, you might think about having your child help you with other spring plants.
