Green Valley Church had served the rural area of Claiborne County for more than 100 years. Throughout its uneventful history, the church had suffered only minor disputes among its members, and very little fluctuation in its membership, as the congregation relied upon its love for each other and its faith in God to sustain them. But that love and faith was to be strongly tested with the arrival of Sarah and Henry Meddle into the community.
Henry, with his twinkling blue eyes and affable manner, soon became a Sunday school superintendent, and Sarah, with her saintly demeanor and vast knowledge of music, was accepted enthusiastically as the new choir director. Over the next two years, the congregation bestowed many honors and offices upon Henry and Sarah Meddle, rejoicing in the couple's active involvement in their new family of friends.
