Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. (v. 6)

Good morning, boys and girls! Can you tell me what these are? (hold up handcuffs; allow answers) That's right: handcuffs! Who uses handcuffs? (allow answers each time) Right again -- policemen! Why do the police use handcuffs? Why do they need to lock up the bad guys? Good answers, all.

Today's Bible verse reminds me of a pair of handcuffs. The gospel reading for today is from a part of the Bible called the Beatitudes. This is a speech Jesus gave that encouraged people to be good servants of God. Verse 6 says: "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled." Now, I'm not hungry for handcuffs -- are you? (allow answers) Do you think that would taste very good? (allow answers) But this verse talks about people who want the good guys to come out...
