Once a teacher asked the children at church to draw a picture of God. But they had never seen God. Did God have hands and feet and eyes and ears the way we do? They sat quietly, thinking and feeling who God might be or how God might appear. Did God have wings as the angels? Did God fly like the clouds?

The paper was there. The crayons were there, and suddenly, an idea was there. Alan took the bright orange crayon and drew a circle, a large orange circle. Then he put down the crayon and thought again. With a yellow crayon he drew another circle, smaller and above the first. Then he drew eyes, a nose, and a mouth on each of them, and over all he drew a rainbow of many colors.

(While telling, draw the circles and rainbow as they appear in the story.)

When the children were asked to show their drawings, Alan held his picture before them...
