Today's lesson has one of the best-known scripture verses: John 3:16. Does anyone know what John 3:16 says? (see if anyone knows) John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life." Sound familiar?

The reason this verse is so well known is because it sums up God's love for us and tells us why Jesus is so important. (hold up the slips of paper) I have written this verse on papers. I have one for each of you to take with you. (hand out the papers) Let's look at this verse together. The first part says that God loves us. He loves the whole world.
