There was once a man who dreamed of a beautiful home, and soon all of his time, energy, money, and attention were devoted to building his home. One day he heard a cry, "The earth is on fire! The planet is burning up!" He wanted to help, but he needed to finish his home first. At last it was done. But when he looked around, there was nowhere to put it, for the earth was no more.

Talk together: I once told this story and afterwards asked, "Hearing this story, for what would you pray?" Lucy replied, "A new world." Frank said, "A new house." Cody, thinking hard, and older than the others, frowned and asked, "Why pray for a new home when there's no place to put it?" For what would you pray?

Praying for others, for our sisters and brothers, for the earth, are prayers of "intercession." Let us pray now a prayer of intercession:

Prayer: Dear Lord, bless our sisters...
